for the past couple of interior envy post i’ve shared several awesome spaces within new york city. today, we leave the east coast and travel over to the west coast.. brentwood, california to be exact. this welcoming horse ranch with its romantic blend of contemporary and mediterranean architectural sensibilities was built by whipple russell architects. the house was originally built for a creative couple; one an architect turned director the other a writer and sommelier. while the husband wanted a contemporary feel the wife longed for romantic. i’m loving the contemporary feel you get from the architecture while the decor has a romantic vibe to it. this is the type of house that would make a city girl like me ditch the skyscrapers for acres of land and peace of quiet. my favorite area of this whole house is probably the backyard. i mean seriously. isn’t it gorgeous?!
the interior of this 2,000 square foot chelsea loft was designed by diego alejandro design for an advertising executive which incorporated his love for creativity through a bold, unexpected design. “i try to bring a different sensibility to each interior design project. i treat interiors as compositions — blending color, volumes, textures and lines — to create a space that is fresh, sophisticated and visually enjoyable”, the designer states. i’m loving all the bright color and pattern play seen all over the loft. love seeing the interiors of creatives living in new york.
aside from owning a lakeside cabin of some sort in the catskill region, it is a dream of mine to buy a brownstone with the mister and renovate it from head to toe. i stumbled across this wonderfully designed brooklyn brownstone by jessica helgerson interior design and had to share. located in the fort greene neighborhood of brooklyn, the recently remodeled brownstone was furnished for a young couple who has a strong love for pop art, bright colors and fresh modern design. i absolutely love all the colors. how about you?
i first caught a glimpse of fashion designer diane von furstenberg’s penthouse over on architectural digest and fell in love immediately. now on a normal day, i’m a minimalist by heart. but i’m also a leo and i love things that are glam, glam.. glam! this penthouse is that and more. i love how lively and fun the space feels.
“When I was young, I lived like an old woman,” the 65-year-old grandmother of three explains, “and when I got old, I had to live like a young person.”
von furstenberg’s six-story, 35,000-square-foot space compromised of her design studio, flagship store and the penthouse is located in manhattan’s meatpacking district. for the construction of this particular spot, she hired the architecture firm WORKac to merge a pair of victorian redbrick buildings she acquired back in 2006. there is now a concrete staircase that leads from the ground floor to a rooftop lair containing a live/work space and, above that, a 900-square-foot master suite with a terrace where there once was a gap between the structures.
dear diane, right now i envy you. dear future self, take note. your place needs to look a little something like this.
