Inspiration | Vogue India November 2013

I’m the type of person that buys magazines solely for the aesthetics. If it’s designed well enough, I’ll read whatever is inside. That’s how I’ve come to love magazines such as Wired, GQ and Inc. to name a few. Personally, I loathe most fashion magazines–with the exception of Elle UK.

What I loathe more than fashion magazines are Vogue magazines simply for the fact that they are filled with way too many ads, horrible layouts and copy so small my 25-year old eyes even have problems reading. So, I don’t buy them. At least not the US Vogue. Last month, while picking up some magazines for the month I stumbled across a fashion spread within Vogue India that simply took my breath away. Signe Vilstrup captured an amazing Indian wedding & I just had to share. Loving everything about this spread from the vibrant colors, to the elegant patterns, but most importantly.. the make-up. My freakin’ goodness.

Working on a few campaigns for my Party Over Hair blog for 2014, let’s just say Signe Vilstrup has inspired me in so many ways this month.

  • I love all of the colors in this editorial. So gorgeous! The styling is perfect. Thank you for sharing!

The colors & prints were really what pulled me in. So much attention is paid to detail throughout these spreads, I absolutely love it.

  • Well dang! All of this was just gorgeous and colorful! They make being covered up look so sassy! Just like it should be! Awesome share Laura!

    • L.

Glad you enjoy! And yes, these garments are to elegant, yet sassy. I want, I want, I want!

  • these photos==gorgeous. the use of color is particularly compelling!

    • L.

Agreed. And there’s something magical about that B/W photo!

  • I might get grief for this, but aside from Black women, I think Indian women are so gorgeous. I mean all women are gorgeous and I find such beauty in all races but these women look flawless…but then again I say that about Everybody so i guess nevermind haha. Anyway all the colors, and the outfits are soooo gorgeous!

    • L.

I totally get what you mean! 😉 But yes, the colors.. the colors & the prints.. I’m going to an Indian wedding soon.. now I have HIGH expectations! Smh! Lol

  • I love every one of these pics. The women are amazingly beautiful. All of the color! I haven’t traveled to India but I think seeing all of the colors they fill their lives with would be a wonderful experience.

Agreed! I’ve never been, but one day I’d love to go. I’m a sucker for their prints & fashion.

  • I’m a big fan of the Indian wedding tradition (tattoos, clothing, everything!), so I absolutely loved this!
Agree with you on the Vogue problems. Man, way too many ads. Still, I love the photos (mostly), so it is one of the few magazines I renew yearly.

If you find any spreads as stunning as this within the US Vogue, please let me know! I just don’t have the patience to flip through all those ads, not to mention their pagination sucks. It’s hard finding actual page numbers in that magazine, let alone finding what you need. But I’m a sucker for a good spread, so if you come across some magical ones.. please share!

This is why I love Indian culture so much. My absolute favorite. Do you recall which store you picked this up in?

It’s a little magazine spot on 23rd & 6th right next to Home Depot. I got the last Vogue India, but they have a lot of European magazines. Wonderful place to visit & get inspired.

  • Beautiful spreads! And I most definitely feel you. I always go for the aesthetics in hope that there is substantial content to match as well. Someone mentioned the same frustrations with magazines to me the other day, and it only makes me more excited about the market I plan to grow into. It’s such a passion of mine. But yea, these photos are incredible, a very good representation of international print publications!

I feel with more brands being required to deliver high quality content via online, it should affect the way brands & publications present content via print. Hopefully Vogue gets better.
