five reasons why i left your blog immediately

Five Design Mistakes Bloggers Make

as you know by now, im a designer.

i live + breathe design.. well, no.. i live + breathe good design, exceptional design even.

art school has trained my eyes to look at something + instantly see the good in the design, or more times than most, the bad. my eyes can pick up when something isn’t kerned (kerning: (v.) adjusting the spacing between letters or characters.) properly, or when something is off by a pixel or two. being this nit picky about design would of course cross over into me being ridiculously nit picky about blog design.

usually when i find a new blog, the first five seconds of landing on the page will determine if your blog makes my subscription reader or gets lost amongst the interwebs. i guess in this instance.. we can say i judge a book by it’s cover. *hangs head in shame.. kinda.*

if it’s not aesthetically in pleasing for my taste, i probably will leave if the content isn’t that interesting.. if it’s well designed, it gets added to the reader regardless the content. so here are my top five reasons i’d leave your site in a hurry:

you have music on autoplay.
not to mention, you don’t have the control options above the fold.

no matter what music is playing, i came on your site to read.. not be distracted by what you currently like to listen to. if you really want me to listen, make a music playlist post. you’ve then got my ear.

Monday Lunchtime Linkage

july is here already. forth of july is this week. three-day work week. all i can think is.. man, where has the time gone? next month, im turning 25. can we say excited? using this month to really reflect on the progress i’ve made since turning 24 last year. anyways, i figured i’d kick off the week with some monday lunchtime linkage. link round-ups seem to be the popular thing on fridays. i tend to have tons of new things to read, so i figured i’d share them with you on.. well, mondays. so here we go:

+ as a pet owner + a natural remedies aficionado, i found these tips to reduce vet cost with home remedies for pets really helpful. who knew crazy glue could be used to help heal minor cuts.

“and that’s the only thing we should focus on in life — enjoy the walk, learn about ourselves and drop the comparisons. you’ll love the journey even more.”

+ there comes a few times when i will fall victim to comparing myself to others. zen habits shows us why there’s absolutely no point in comparing yourself to others. if there’s anyone you should be comparing yourself to.. it’s yourself.

“it’s almost like [customers] are becoming a brand ambassador on behalf of the restaurant.”

+ restaurants are finally appreciating the use of social media while dining. some restaurants are even offering special perks to influensters who instagram their food porn.

+ everyone loves a good bargain. seriously. during the summer, you can get your hands on quite a few movie matinee bargains. $7 movie tuesdays — who can beat that?

have a great week, everyone!
